What Is Barrel Tasting?

Barrel tasting is a unique wine tasting experience that allows you to sample wines that are still in the barrel before they are bottled and released to the public. During the weekend, wineries open their doors to visitors, allowing them to taste wines directly from the barrel. Here, you’ll gain insights into the winemaking process.

Barrel tasting is an exciting way to get a sneak peek at the next vintage and find new wines before they hit the shelves. It’s also an amazing opportunity to meet winemakers, learn about the craft, and get a behind-the-scenes look at the winemaking process.

The Wine Road: About the Event

The Wine Road Barrel Tasting event is hosted by Wine Road, an association of wineries and lodgings. Found in the Alexander, Dry Creek, and Russian River valleys of Northern Sonoma County, these wineries have been participating in the event for years.

First, you’ll arrive at a “check-in” winery of your choosing. Then, you’ll receive your wine glass, a wristband, and a program. You can then visit any number of the wineries during the even. With over 50 wineries participating in this event, including Colagrossi Wines, Harvest Moon Winery, and Ramazzotti Wines, there’s no lack of options.

Please note that all participating wineries have limited time and space devoted to wine tasting. Therefore, buses and large groups are not permitted. Wineries will not be able to accommodate your party if your group is eight or more in size. Additionally, buses and “party buses” will not be admitted to winery grounds.
